Figured I should update/refine this.

Currently I'm a writer living in Raleigh. I'm the editor of the Wake Technical Community Collge newspaper, The Student Voice, and I'm hoping to dive into NC State with a Journalism/Creative Writing/Teaching/Japan Studies polymajor. :P

In addition to my school duties, I have a part-time job at Lone Star Steakhouse and Saloon, Raleigh location #2. Good food, haphazard management. Let us move on.

I like manga and anime, the former moreso than the latter. Some people like it because it's vogue nowadays, but I like it 'cause it's virtually the only type of art that hasn't yet been demonized by the media. My favorites include:

Love Hina: So many things come together here. Akamatsu's art, writing, and humor; characters that change and grow over the course of te series;a good take on the "dork-surrouded-by-beautiful-women" cliche; and my love of Motoko.

Tenchi: Classic tale of ordinary boy becoming a great hero... surrounded by beautiful women, naturally. Notable for two separate charms for the OAV, TV series, spinoffs, and the manga.

Oh My Goddess: Such a sweet story of a Goddess in love with a mortal. Plus it contains more information on spirits and motorbikes you'll ever need. Skuld is great, too. ^_^

Ranma: Funniest take on martial arts ever. The whole gender-bending thing pales in comparison against martial arts eating, gambling, gymnastics, and figure skating.

Chobits: A great modern-day parable of love. The story, which is lovely, exists not for it's own sake, but for ours. Plus Chi's just too damn cute to pass up. :D

Cowboy Bebop: Legendary. The stories told here are better than most western primetime lineups, and believe it or not, that's saying something.CSI. Smallville. Cowboy Bebop. Yeah, it fits like a glove.

Ai Yori Aoshi: Don't let the sappiness fool you, it's a sweet traditional tale. The emotions expressed in this series carry an appropriate amount of weight to them, especially when it comes the seriousness of the hero and heroine's lineages.

Excel Saga: Good lord. Goofiness, randomness, and craziness just scratch the surface. This series ain't just certifiably insane, it enjoys it.

Negima: Quickly growing to be a favorite. Akamatsu is on his game here, with an unrivaled thirty girls to pay attention to and a plot involving sword and sorcery that continues to thicken. And it's funny as hell.

Tsubasa: CLAMP's Kingdom Hearts, and it works just as well. Pooling CLAMP's best together works extremely well.

Mega Man: NT Warrior: I was really surprised with the quality of the manga. It's like netbattling was never cheesy. Bass and the mysteries of the Undernet are coming off extremely well.

Utena: There's so much substance here, it puts western toons to shame. I'd like to write a paper on the intracacies of Revolutionary Girl Utena someday, just because I probably could.

*****

Well, I like more than just Anime and Manga. The genius of South Park, Wrestling, Star Trek, and the varied programming of Spike TV and Comedy Central; reading classics, writing stories, an drawing politcal cartoons and comic strips; singing, acting, and performing; AIM improv and writing fanfics; occasional studying of the Japanese culture; anime and game music; ...and more stuff along those lines.

One more special mention- Final Fantasy. I single this out because of importance to me. Without the impact FFVII had on me when I first played through it, I wouldn't have stepped into this personality, this persona, at all. I'd probably be angsty and pessimistic and more than likely, Republican. Not that Republicanism is bad, but hey, it did wonders for me.

Peace and monkeys for everyone. ^_~
